Fitness testing

  • This is done to assess how good an athletes level of fitness is, across the different components.

  • Some people may find they are better in some areas compared to others.

  • There is what's known as 'normative data' which offers performers a chance to compare themselves to other people of a similar age, so they can see what their strength and weakness are in terms of fitness.

Harvard step test

Harvard Step Test

  • The assistant measures the athlete's heart rate (bpm) one min after finishing the test - Pulse1

  • Assistant measures the athlete's heart rate (bpm) two mins after finishing the test - Pulse2

  • Assistant measures the athlete's heart rate (bpm) three mins after finishing the test - Pulse3

  • Result = 30000 ÷ (pulse1 + pulse2 + pulse3)
